Videography & Photography

Each time-lapse video is composed from over 30,000 individually-composed photographs.

The Time-Lapse Tales method of photography is particularly suited to capturing natural, spontaneous moments.

Additionally, my technique is streamlined. I don’t use large video cameras, continuous lighting sources or video crews, meaning that your wedding remains your wedding.

The Theory Behind the Work

My work is based on a belief that, when wanting to remember our experiences, photographs often do not portray enough reality while videos often provide too much.

Most traditionally-filmed videos magnify small periods until they are out of proportion, while still managing to miss the vast majority of our experience. Additionally, we can look at a handful of photographs and find our memories remain blurry.

This makes sense because we do not remember our lives as a collection of still images. And similarly, we never recollect at 24 frames per second with full audio! The mind simply does not work like this.

In this way, my work may be described as seeking a balance between the extremes of photography and videography, whilst also striving to be loyal to the fragmented yet flowing nature of our actual memories.

About the Music

Unlike the majority of wedding videographers, who use generic, affordable stock music, I frequently licence music from leading artists.

This is because using the ideal music is an essential aspect of your video.

To create a soundtrack that complements your memories, we will consult together, combining your ideas and taste with my years of experience in soundtrack searching and selection.

Telling the Story

While time-lapse is the primary focus of my career, I am also a writer and bring my understanding of narrative to my video work.

I recognise the moments that define your story; I know what to show and how much to show, moulding the presentation of your day in a way that expresses your individual voice.

The final tale is uniquely yours: you provide the content.

About Me

My name is Pete Whitcroft. I am the founder of Time-Lapse Tales
and creator of this style of time-lapse.

I originally studied Medicine at University College London, and then Ethics at King’s College London, before becoming a video producer and photographer.

I seek to effectively capture our past in a way that will enrich our future. I have spent years developing my technique and push equipment to the very limits of its design.

Ultimately, seeing the way in which my clients react to my work is the greatest reward.
